The Highlands School

About Us

The Highlands School is an independent K–8 school in Bel Air, Maryland, serving students with language-based learning differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, executive-functioning challenges, and language-processing differences.

For more than 30 years, Highlands has helped bright, capable students discover that learning differently does not mean they cannot learn. Our specialized program combines intensive small-group instruction, including groups of just three students to one teacher, with explicit, research-based, language-rich teaching throughout the school day.

At Highlands, students learn to read, learn, advocate, believe, and launch with the skills and confidence they need for what comes next. Students are known, understood, challenged, and taught according to how they learn best.

Highlands also serves the broader community through our **Tutoring Center**, which provides individualized academic support to Highlands students and students from throughout the community. Our summer camp offers children a fun, supportive place to learn, create, explore, make friends, and build confidence.
