Job Description
Communications Assistant:
The Harford County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Communications Assistant to start immediately. The Communications Assistant is responsible for providing support for the communications of the chamber through a variety of channels: print, web, email, direct mail, and broadcast; as well as supporting and participating in Chamber events. The Communications Assistant will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and will assist with the planning and execution of marketing communications such as public relations, advertising, website content, digital marketing, print and web design, photo and video productions, events, social media, and marketing campaigns. Our ideal candidate must be willing to learn about the Chamber industry and culture and have excellent verbal and written communication.
Responsibilities
  • Support and execute integrated marketing communications such as public relations, advertising, website content, digital marketing, print and web design, photo and video productions, events, social media, and marketing campaigns.
  • Press releases and publications to garner media attention for the Harford County Chamber of Commerce and its initiatives.
  • Create compelling copy for various media outlets including print, web, email, direct mail, and broadcast.
  • Develop and maintain strategic marketing collateral, for example: print, multimedia, promotional giveaways, presentations and other tools as needed.
  • Assist with the curation of social media posts and advertisement: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Take quality photos and videos for use across social media platforms and selected internal and external audiences.
  • Assist with developing content for weekly newsletter and blog.
  • Attend Chamber committee meeting, and Chamber events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office; especially Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experienced with social media platforms not limited to LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
  • Competent user of content management system programs
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of coordinating and tracking multiple, ongoing projects
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work with, within and promote a diverse workforce and environment.
  • Comfortable with constructive criticism and critique.
  • Strong collaborating skills and an ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team
  • Excels in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self motivated and proactive.
  • This role will require flexibility in terms of work hours, including events to support events.
The following skills are preferred but not required:
  • Graphic design, and experience with design software – Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Knowledge of photo and video editing
  • Experience with Constant Contact
Education and Experience Required:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field and/or equivalent communications experience. College seniors graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field may be considered.
  • Prior experience with a Chamber of Commerce a plus
