Job Description
Legislative Aide:
The Harford County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a part-time Legislative Aide to start immediately. The Legislative Aide is responsible for supporting the advocacy efforts of the chamber at the local, state, and federal levels. The Legislative Aide will report to the President & CEO and will monitor/review/report on business-related legislative issues, record meeting notes from the Legislative Committee, and monitor/review/report any advocacy efforts from our partners.  Our ideal candidate must be willing to learn about the Chamber industry and culture and have excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Monitor/Review/Report on Harford County Council agendas and meetings
  • Monitor/Review/Report on Aberdeen City Council agendas and meetings
  • Monitor/Review/Report on Havre de Grace Council agendas and meetings
  • Monitor/Review/Report on Bel Air Commissioner agendas and meetings
  • Assist in developing the agendas for the Chamber’s Legislative Committee
  • Record notes from the Chamber’s Legislative Committee
  • Communicate with elected officials on behalf of the Harford Chamber
  • Draft Letters of Support/Opposition on various proposed legislation
  • Participate in weekly partner advocacy conference calls
  • Draft advocacy communications for our membership
  • Attend Chamber committee meeting, and Chamber events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office; especially Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experienced with social media platforms not limited to LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
  • Competent user of content management system programs
  • Capable of coordinating and tracking multiple, ongoing projects
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work with, within and promote a diverse workforce and environment.
  • Comfortable with constructive criticism and critique.
  • Strong collaborating skills and an ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team
  • Excels in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self motivated and proactive.
  • This role will require flexibility in terms of work hours, including events to support events.
The following skills are preferred but not required:
  • Experience with Constant Contact & Word Press
Education and Experience Required:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, or related field and/or equivalent experience. College seniors graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science or related field may be considered.
  • Prior experience with a Chamber of Commerce a plus
